Fraxel laser treatments have proven their worth to minimize the skin damage of acne, sun damage, stretch marks and aging. Fraxel laser treatments work for many other skin problems as well. What is Melasma and why is it often referred to as the “mask of pregnancy?” The symptom of Melasma is when dark spots appear on the face, usually across the forehead, cheeks and nose areas. It is rare for men to have this condition and it is usually associated with adult women.
What physically happens is that the pigmentation cells in the skin are intensely stimulated. The actual causes are unknown but usually it is triggered by a severe hormonal upheaval. Hence why it is called the “mask of pregnancy”, as this is a common time Melasma appears in some women.
It sometimes happens to women using the contraceptive pill as well. It is seldom seen in very pale skinned woman; African, Hispanic, Asian and Middle Eastern groups are usually affected. Sometimes mild Melasma disappears after a period of time and with using derma logical creams.
Fraxel is highly effective
Fraxel works extremely well in treating Melasma as the laser used distributes microscopic laser spots in the area. The spots are closely spaced, yet preserve healthy skin in the treatment area. Because it preserved the normal skin areas, this results in much faster healing than would be achieved with any other type of laser treatment. The Fraxel technology resulted in a gentle resurfacing of the skin that removes the marks of Melasma.
Treatments are non-invasive and people can usually resume their normal daily routines after a day or so. Aftercare consists of a normal skin care routine and using a good sunscreen.
