WHAT WILL MY SKIN LOOK LIKE AFTER THE FRAXEL PROCEDURE?
Most patients report a mild sunburn sensation for about an hour after the Fraxel prociedure and then virtually no discomfort thereafter. The skin will have a pinkish tone for five to seven days – this is a normal sign that your skin is healing deeply.
Swelling is minimal and generally resolves in two to three days.
You may wish to sleep with your head slightly elevated for the first few nights following your Fraxel treatment.
As your new epidermal skin develops the process of skin repair involves:
- Bronzing
Your skin will develop a bronze appearance that lasts anywhere from 3 to 7 days depending upon the level of treatment. - Dry Skin
Your skin will micro-exfoliate naturally as the reorganised epidermal skin replaces dead tissue, just as it does with a minor sunburn, but without the associated pain. Use of a moisturiser will help to mask the appearance of dryness. - Sunscreen
Use sunscreen at least twice a day to protect your skin from sun exposure during the healing phase and for several months after treatment. Apply a moisturising sunblock with an SPF of at least 30. For added protection from sunlight wear a wide-brimmed hat.
HOW LONG AFTER MY FRAXEL LASER TREATMENT CAN I RETURN TO MY NORMAL ACTIVITIES?
You may apply make-up or shave soon after treatment and most patients find that they can return to work within 24 hours following the treatment.
Avoid saunas, swimming and any exercise for 1 week and do NOT have any other form of facial treatment or therapy until authorised to do so by your practitioner. Do not use products on your face that will irritate the skin or block the pores.
WHEN WILL I SEE RESULTS FROM MY FRAXEL TREATMENT ?
After your very first Fraxel session you will begin to feel the difference in your skin as it gradually becomes softer, smoother, tighter and fresher. Fine lines around your eyes, uneven colouring and the bronze spots caused by ageing and sun exposure will gradually fade.
After several treatments, your skin will have a much more youthful and healthy glow with results that you can really see and feel.
WHAT ARE THE POTENTIAL SIDE-EFFECTS OF THE FRAXEL LASER TREATMENT?
Due to the unique delivery of the Fraxel® laser system there are very few risks associated with the treatment with minimal downtime. However, the skin can be highly sensitive and care must be taken to minimise any adverse reactions. Complications include, but are not limited to the following:
- Swelling/redness/blanching/burns/blisters/scabbing/hyper or hypo-pigmentation changes/bruising mild to moderate discomfort/itching/cold sores//infection/keloid formation/punctuate bleeding/skin textural changes/milia/acne eruption/permanent scarring.
Most of these effects will normally disappear within a few days or weeks of treatment, but please contact your practitioner if you experience any of the above effects.
